How to Treat a Yeast Infection with a Natural Cure
Before we look at how to treat yeast infections lets first look at what some of the symptoms are.
Symptoms of Yeast infections
How to know for sure that you are having a yeast infection
If you are trying to get rid of a yeast infection you are not alone. In fact, studies have shown that a majority of all women will have a yeast infection at some point in their lives.
Not all of these symptoms may be present when you have a yeast infection but some of them may include an irritation and redness around the vagina. A burning itch will usually be present with the redness as well. Soreness and a rash may occur and urinating will produce some pain and irritation as well. Sometimes you will notice a sort of lumpiness and odd consistency to the discharge which is usually a sign of a yeast infection. Of course, a doctor should be notified of any or all of these conditions.
What is the Cause of a Yeast Infection?
Where did this yeast infection come from anyway?
There is a certain PH level that must be maintained in the vagina for optimum health and to control the yeast. When the acidity is lowered by a fungus the PH level will decrease and you are more prone to the infection.
While there are many different ways a yeast infection can occur here are a few of the most common ways.
- Your period
- Certain medications, including antibiotics
- Some birth control contraceptives
- Diabetes
- Steroid use
- Clothing that is too tight, not allowing for airing out or breathing
- Sexual activity can cause a yeast infection
- A worn out immune system is also more prone to this type of infection.
What Are Some Natural Homemade Remedies for a Yeast Infection?
While not all of these may work for everyone, some of these natural cures have worked and they are worth mentioning here.
- Yogurt – the hydrogen peroxide producing bacteria in yogurt is a natural bacteria that is found in healthy women and is essential for a healthy vagina. You can apply around the vagina and even use some acidophilus to apply within to allow the bacteria to help fight the infection.
- Garlic in your diet has also shown to help the curing process. The yeast is a fungus and garlic has several fungus fighting ingredients.
- Cranberries will also help to get the proper PH down there and get the right amount of acidity to fight the yeast infection.
- Using Tampons with the yogurt can help too, so pick up some extra tampons while you are at the store.
- Tea Tree Oil – there is a compound in tea tree oil that some will claim can cure a yeast infection in 4 days, but while there are no studies that have been done on this it is hard to say for sure. But it is worth a shot if nothing else seems to work.
- Boric Acid. You can use the boric acid like you do the yogurt on the tampon to make sure that the acidity level is where it should be for optimum vaginal health.
